Cromer Zoo is coming back as 'Amazona'!

Cromer Zoo is coming back as Cromer is to once again get it's own zoo! Famous for its pier and North Norfolk sandy beaches it seems the most unlikely place to have a zoo but it's official!

There used to be a zoo in Cromer about 24 years ago but it sadly closed and to many it was nothing but a distant memory. However it's coming back and it's no half hearted naff petting farm affair either!

Bosses at the new zoo in Cromer have announced that the official name for the zoo will be 'Amazona'. Its name reflects the intention to specialise in South American species which originate in the increasingly threatened rainforests.

More than 80 different species will live at the zoo, with highlights such as big cats, the largest rodent in the world called a capybara, spectacled caiman crocodiles, green and yellow anacondas, poison arrow frogs, piranhas, flamingos, rheas, marmosets, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys and tamarinds.

The zoo has been developed by Ken Sims, owner of Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens near Great Yarmouth.

We don't know when the zoo is opening but be sure we'll keep you posted here. Maybe soon Cromer will become famous not only for crabs but 'Cromer Crocs' as well?divider
